Kicking It Since '02

Blake and I have been married for 7 years.
He gets me. When someone says the word "package" in a sentence Blake will giggle too. If Laney says the word shirt, you know that we will both be snickering a little. And if for some reason you say the word "do" and it is followed directly by another "do," one of us is sure to point it out...

That is why I love him. Or at least one of the reasons.

Who Knew Happy Meals Could Be So Fun?

We went to McDonald's the other day and got the kids happy meals. Like all kids they love to get the toy on the inside. Blake was looking at what Gavin's toy was and Gavin says: "Dad, don't touch my package. You can play with your own package if you want."

I laughed so hard I cried. (I may have also snorted a little.)

If I Were An Octopus I Would Wrap My Tentacles Around You And Squeeze.

Coming off of a birthday where I just turned 30, you would think that I'd feel old. I don't. Thank goodness. You would think that being 30 and having three kids would do me in. It hasn't. And if one could venture a guess you would think that getting a new drivers license where they tell me I can't have my middle name and where I look a pretty shade of Donatella Versace/Oompa Loompas would make me creep a little closer to the edge....Well, you would be right.

Now skip forward to this last Tuesday.

I am an activity day leader in our ward. As we (the girls, the other leader, and I) were standing around a table I had my back to the door. A lady in our ward walks in and asks the other leader if she would like any help. She then proceeds to gasp a little and say

"Oh. You already have some help. Oh, Sister Unguren I am so sorry, I thought you were one of the girls. (Babbling now because I think she is embarrassed) I think it is because of your hair color...."

Hey I take no offense. If you want to compare me to tween/pretween girls I am OK with that. More than OK. It kinda makes me want to hug you.

Hananuka Day 6

So today I am officially 30, flirty, and thriving.
(If you have seen 13 going on 30. That will sound familiar.)
Some days are to be remembered.
Others on the contrary,
However, today is the day,
You'll call legen'... Wait for it ...'dary!

This day of legends began,
The instant the clock chimed midnight,
Because today is the day of your birth,
Which purely is heaven's delight.

So let's celebrate with all of our vigor,
And eat with a voracious heart,
By the end of the night we won't know,
Any difference 'tween the end and the start.

So hazzah to the birthday girl,
But we'll keep that between you and me,
Because I know you'll walk out of that restaurant
If I let it slip to the maitre d. "He went to Jared."
Just kidding...but Blake did buy me this fabulous ring. I love it!!
Even though you can't really tell it is a really light green quartz with three little diamonds on each side.
I heart my new ring.

Hananuka Day 5

The days quickly pass,
It’s time for a break,To the movies we’ll flee,
Make no mistake.

When the time doth come,
For your husband *umuwi,
Next stop Aliante Station,
To catch a flick with thee.

One thing need be done,
By your very hand,
The movie be chosen,
Or need to be planned.

So flip this card over,
Starting times you will see,
Corresponding with movies,
To choose for you and me.
*Tagalog: To come home. Pronounced: “oo-moo-wee”

Something Non Hananuka

"I'm really not a mean Lady. I just don't like you here."
-Gavin

Hananuka Day 4

I heard some commotion, And said, "What's the big notion?"
In reply someone exclaimed,
"It's better than Newton's third law of motion!"

I was completely confused,
But mostly amused,
For I thought to myself,
"Equal and opposite...Was the law
misused?"

My mind and body felt drained,
But alas they explained,
"It's Hananuka!"
They cheered with hearts unfeigned.

Oh yes that is true,
So no one be blue,
For it's time to celebrate
This season anew!

So like the laws of motion,
Or crossing the oceans,
We continue to celebrate,
This time with sewing notions.

Hananuka Day 3

Your talent is so astounding,
You amaze me everyday.
You craft like no one's business,
And you're sexy, if I may?
Every Mozart needs a piano,
Every Trump needs a city block.
Without the proper tools,
Their work becomes a crock.
So here's another tool,
To enhance your creativitay*
I hope this gives you what you need,
To help you on your way.

Hananuka Day 2

Once again,
It's this time of year,
When flowers come,
With their pedals sincere.

On the surface,
Simplistic a flower we may find,
But, through a microscope
A complex cellular structure entwined.

I'm sure that the previous,
A metaphor it may be,
But alas too deep,
Even for me.

Just know this my love,
That to me you're worth,
More than every flower,
That has grown on this earth.

Hananaka Day 1

Every good day,
Or for that matter a week,
Deserves a great song,
Nay, soundtrack I bespeak.

Thus, the search began,
For the ultimate mix,
But too daunting the task,
For one man's bag of tricks.

So in search of help,
The journey commenced.
To scour the world,
All the odds I was against.

Then in an instant,
An epiphany struck me,
To your friends and family I turned,
For a music getting spree. *

When you press play on the iPod,
Shock and awe you will find,
The soundtrack for Hananuka,
It will blow your mind.

*See reverse side for play list.

Dear anyone reading our blog:
This week we celebrate Hananuka. For those of you not familiar it is 7 days of festivities to celebrate my birthday. This week has theme music (last years was this). There were many people that contributed to the mix. Some of the songs are fun and upbeat. Some bring back memories all good. And then there are some that are just strange and a little morbid (yep Cathy, I am talking about "Oh no you didn't.") But I LOVE them all. I guess it just shows you how individual all my friends and family are. So with this eclectic array of songs it should make my week a lot more fun.
Normally I am opposed to music players on blogs. But for this week you too can listen to the mix. So go ahead turn it up! Dance around the house, sing along, or join hands with your friends in a coom bye ahh moment. I won't judge.
  • I realize that the player is cut off but if you are curious about the songs you can click on "pop out" to make it bigger. I am just too lazy to fix it for a week. Sorry. You will just have to deal.

Are you just giddy with anticipation? I know I am!
