Politics A La Unguren

I am not going to talk politics because I just won't. But you know who will talk politics with you?
He learned about the election in school.
So he told us all about it.
Some gems?
We voted today in our class. I voted for Romney. He won. There were 18 of us that liked him and 10 liked the other guy.
"Gavin, Obama could win."
When you are president then you get to be president for 4 years. Then you have to run another lap and you get to be president again. Obama is running another lap. Mom? Who did you vote for?
I didn't vote. I wasn't registered, but Dad voted.
You didn't vote?!

Shamed by a 7 year old. Feels good.

Mother's Day

They say being a mother is a thankless job. I would have to agree about 364 days a year.
Then sometimes there are things that make it OK that no one cares about what you are doing.
Like little ponytails in nonexistent hair.
It really makes it worth it.
And the cards, oh how I love the cards.
Would it be silly of me to say that I have waited for our kids to be old enough to make me things for mother's day and know what they are doing?
Laney told me that she made me this necklace and should I get hungry during church I could just eat it.
I wore it with pride.
I didn't even take a nibble, even though I was given the green light.
And just when you are thinking you have it all together there is nothing like your kids to give you a good reality check.
Laney the other day couldn't stop talking about my friend Mindy and what a GREAT mom she is.
I should have just kept my mouth shut.
Instead I said "What about me?"
To which she replied that she liked Mindy because she was (and I quote) "Way prettier than me."
So imagine my delight when they did a little questionnaire with Laney at school about me.
I appreciate the fact that I am 23.
I am not loving the 300 lbs. or the fact that she solidifies it with my favorite thing to do is "Make food."
However, if my favorite food is broccoli, then I am certain that I don't have a problem.

Gavin is a champ at speaking French these days so it was sweet to hear him translate my card.
He also was aiding in me getting a big head when he wrote this poem.
Don't worry. He put me in my place.
He told me "Dads are way better than Moms"
When I asked him why, and told him that Mom's were pretty cool and without Mom's he would eat Top Ramen for dinner every night.
He clarified his original statement by saying "I didn't mean it like that. I meant that everyone likes Dads more than Moms."
Case closed.
But I know that I am making a impact when I get something like this:
-My Mothers Day Book-
-My Mom has blond hair.-
-My Mom likes pasta.-
Notice the steam? And the fact that I am indulging in a giant bowl of pasta while lounging in a chair in the sun?
(Although this isn't helping me look like I am not obsessed with food.)

-My Mom doesn't like me hitting other people.-
True dat.

-My Mom's favorite thing to do with my mom is going shopping.-
Not only do I like to shop, but I do it in style. Skirt on, holding hands, with a little one in the basket.
Then we get down to the stuff that is really important.
Grab a tissue.

-I love my mom because,
She lets me play the DS.-
And there you have it folks.
Kicking butt and taking names.

Pearls Of Wisdom

I have stuff I could be blogging about but quite frankly it is Thursday and I am not feeling terribly witty, or even moderately likable at the moment. My kids are funny, though, so I will leave it up to them to dazzle you with their charming personalities.
Penny: pants-less and proud. She has also taken it upon herself to be the resident screamer. And not just any yell will do, I am talking only high pitched shrills.
Gavin and Laney:
The two of them say a lot of funny crap. When they have conversations I listen in just for the little nuggets of goodness. Some recent conversations:
G: What rhymes with ball?
L: Hall!
G: Good job. What rhymes with more?
L: Whore.
G: Good. What rhymes with wag?
L: Fag.

L: It looks like it is going to rain today.
(This was the sky the day Laney said that. No lie. I made Blake take a picture only to prove that she was loco. Nothing like parading your child's crazy all over the Internet. Solid parenting. Almost as good as making it look like we have been teaching her words like whore and fag.)
Canon: He makes me laugh. Daily. His new thing is telling me he is wearing his "Mommy shirt. It's scary."
Sometimes I am am. Scary that is.

It's Just a Bead

The kids found these little red beads out in our front yard and here are just a few of the gems that they said about them. "These are our babies. I am gonna name mine Rose and Gavin is gonna name his Nemo."

"Look how little it is. It is smaller than Penny. This can fit in a lid and Penny can't because my baby is little."

"Mine is gonna turn into a clown fish."

"Isn't it fun we all have babies? I have a baby and Gavin has a baby and Canon has a baby and you have Penny. Dad doesn't have a baby though."

"I think I left my baby in the car. Can you unlock it so I can find it?"

On a side note I did have to tell Canon to keep his "baby" out of his mouth. Fingers crossed this isn't a preview into the future.

Rainbow Connection Powered By Duracell

Gavin: "I see the rainbow."
Laney: "Jesus turned it on."
Gavin: "Oh no! Where is it going?"
Laney: "He turned it off."
Gavin: "Yeah the batteries are dead so he turned it off so he could charge them."
Laney: "Yes. He needs to charge them."

He Needs To Polish Up On His Bargaining Skills.

Gavin and Laney both like to watch movies. I only let them watch them on occasion but with out fail they ask daily if they can watch one. The other day Gavin kept asking if he could watch a movie. I kept telling him no. Because this was not the answer that he wanted he tried a different approach.

G: Mom. Can I watch a movie?
M: No Gavin. I have already told you we are not watching a movie.
G: Please mom. I really want to watch one.
M: No.
G: I am going to hit you if you don't let me watch a movie.
M: Well...that is a choice you can make.
G: I am going to hit you if you don't let me watch a movie.
M: I heard you. That is a choice you can make.
About a minute went by......
G: I am being mean to you because you won't let me watch a movie.
M: That is a choice you can make.
G: Well I am being mean to you.
M: That is your decision.

After no response from me I think he figured that his negotiations weren't working.
(He didn't ask again if he could watch a movie.)

Princess 101

I wore this headband to church on Sunday. Gavin asked if Snow White wears a ponytail. He then informed me that "Snow White wears a headband just like mine with a bow, but Snow Whites is red." At least I have moved up on the Disney Character totem pole. Man....Our little boy loves princesses. A lot.
Just so you know. Operation G.I. Joe didn't work.

I Know What Bunnies Like

Today while having breakfast Gavin and I were discussing Easter. Since this is the first year that they get what is happening it has made for some interesting conversations.

Me: On Saturday night we are going to put out a carrot for the Easter Bunny.
Gavin: Why?
Me: I think he will need a snack. Bunnies like carrots.
Gavin: I think that they like strawberries.
Me: No. They just like carrots.
Gavin: I think they like licorice. It's good.
Me: Licorice is good. But I don't think that bunnies like it.
Gavin: Yeah they do. Licorice that tastes like strawberries.
Me: I don't think so.
Gavin: Well we will just have to put it out and see.
Me: OK.
Gavin: We might have to get it out today. Do you know when the bunny comes?
Me: Yep. He comes on Saturday night.
Gavin: We are just going to have to look at Laney's watch and see how long it will be. I think he is coming tonight.

I am not really sure why I bother to disagree with him...he never believes me.

It's A Good Place To Relax

Gavin starts T-ball tomorrow. So, tonight we went to Target to buy him a glove for his practice. As we were looking at gloves Gavin points to the cups and says "I wanna buy some of those bathtubs."

The Snack That Smiles Back

The other day while eating some goldfish crackers for a snack Gavin had the following conversation with the goldfish:
Gavin: "Come here...I am going to eat you." (Gavin takes a bite off the back)
Fish: "Ahhhh! I can't swim."
(Gavin eats all of the fish and then picks up another one. Then he bites off the front.)
Fish 2: "Help! I can't see. I don't know where I am going."
He may look like a nice little kid but that Goldfish didn't stand a chance.

Who Knew Happy Meals Could Be So Fun?

We went to McDonald's the other day and got the kids happy meals. Like all kids they love to get the toy on the inside. Blake was looking at what Gavin's toy was and Gavin says: "Dad, don't touch my package. You can play with your own package if you want."

I laughed so hard I cried. (I may have also snorted a little.)

Domo Oragato Mister Roboto

Canon always has his hands in his mouth (that is except when we have pinned them to his side while we swaddle him.) I think that sometimes they have a mind of their own. They hit him in the face, they take his pacifier out of his mouth, they scratch him. Sometimes his hands are just down right mean. But sometimes they are nice and they let him suck them. Most of the time they look like this while he is sucking on them:

I would venture to say that is not the most comfortable but he seems to like it like that.

The other day Canon was sucking on his fingers when Gavin said:

"Canon stop eating your hands."

Me: "Gavin, it is OK if he sucks on his hands. He likes it."

Gavin: "Yeah, it is OK if he sucks on them but he can't eat them. Because if he does then we will see the wires."Hello Robot baby.

Or perhaps the "wires" are what Gavin thinks tendons are?

Sorry...But It Is True.

"Canon is so hungry right now, he is going to drink two boobs."

Huh?

Gavin says some funny things....here are a few that crack me up:

He thinks that these are called "scare-a-cell's"
He thinks that this place is called
This machine (which is called a nebulizer). Gavin calls it a "death-a-lizer."

He also calls

Old Lady. Yep....we shop at Old Lady.

What A Funny Kid

When I was in the hospital Gavin and Laney came one day to see Canon. Canon was sporting his customary hospital hat. Laney was all over Canon wanting to hug him and love him. Gavin was a little more apprehensive. We assumed that the lack of excitement had to do with being in the hospital and not really with Canon. However, the apprehensiveness could have just been because of Canon's hat. Gavin said that "Canon is wearing a Melificent hat."

What a keen and slightly alarming comparison.

Difference of Opinion

Lately Gavin is under the impression that he knows everything and that if he fights hard enough he can "will" it to be correct. So sometimes when we try to correct him he just disagrees with us until we give up. For example, the other day we were driving down the road and one of these drove by
a motorcycle of course. But Gavin informed us that it was not a motorcycle it was in fact a
scooter. "No Gavin it was a motorcycle." "No, I call it a scooter." (You can see how this conversation goes. Over and over.)

So the other day we are again in the car and Gavin spots one of these waving in the air at the gas station.
To us it is The American flag. To Gavin it is Captain Moroni's Title of Liberty.
We figured that he was probably about half right and called it a draw.

Purrrfect

Gavin informed me the other day that Aunt Sarah has kitties. He also told me that when the baby comes out then I can have a kitten in my tummy and than we can have kitties like Aunt Sarah. Blake told Gavin that in fact Mommy does not carry kitties in her tummy we get kitties at the store. Meow.

Gavin's Opinion

My new calling at church is nursery. (I have had it for about a month and a half.) I am also the activity days leader. Yes, I am a two calling kind of gal. Well, in our nursery they have it split in two. Older and Younger. Laney is in the Younger and Gavin is in the Older. I asked to not be in with Laney because she is finally starting to adjust and I don't want to mess with that. So I am in with Gavin. This was our conversation when we got home from church:

Me: Laney did you have fun in nursery today?
Laney: some grunts that mean yes.
Me: Did you play with toys and sing songs?
Laney: starts to sing head, shoulders, knees and toes....(we can only really understand the motions and the word toes.)
Gavin: I had fun in nursery today.
Me: Tell Dad what you did.
Gavin: Well, I can play by myself and have snacks and sing. So, Mom, I don't want you to come to nursery with me anymore.
Me: Well honey I have to come it is my calling.
Gavin: Well I don't want you to. I want to be by myself. Please don't come anymore. You can go somewhere else.

It is funny. Most kids want their parents in with them. Even scream and cry when they leave. Yet, Gavin wants me to be somewhere else. If only it were that easy.

Too Much Information

The other day while I was going to the doctor Gavin and Laney went to my friend Lindsey's house. As they were eating lunch Gavin informed Lindsey that
"The Baby does not eat cereal."
"That's right." said Lindsey
"They baby is only going to drink milk from my Mom's boobs."

Thanks Gavin for clearing that one up.
