It has been about a week.
I couldn't blog about it when it had first happened because the wound was too fresh.
I still feel horrible when I think about it. It makes me want to throw up.
But Penny is good and that is what is important.
Last week I was getting ready to go to Zumba and Blake was making the kids spaghetti for dinner. At the last minute I decided that I wasn't going to go and I was just going to stay home.
Penny was in the kitchen on the counter in her Bumbo and Gavin and Laney was sitting at the counter coloring.
Blake and I were talking and then we heard a thud. I think we both knew right away what it was. We went in to find Penny laying on the floor. She has fallen off of the counter top onto the floor. (I think we assumed that because she was in her Bumbo she would be fine...we were wrong.) We picked her up and it took a couple of seconds for her to cry. Then she screamed for just a couple of seconds and then stopped.
Blake handed her to me and she got pale and went limp. I freaked out!
We rushed down to the urgent care where they looked at her and checked her out to make sure nothing was wrong. All the while I am crying hoping that she will be OK.
After checking her out they said that she looked like she would be fine. She had just hit her head really hard and would probably want to take a nap for a little bit.
Sure enough on the way home she fell asleep and then slept in my arms for about 30 minutes.
Then she woke up to Canon screaming...opened her eyes, and started to smile and then laugh at Canon.
I can't tell you how happy her smile made me.
She had a big bump on her head that is gone now and has been replaced with a blue green tinged bruise on the back of her head.
Although it is hard to tell in the pictures it was a nasty bump for such a little head.
(Look at the bottom right)
I hope nothing like that happens ever again.
(We also got rid of the Bumbo...it has bad memories now.)
12 What do you think?:
Oh my goodness Hannah, how scary! I'm so glad she's okay ... apart from the really bad bruise. Anytime my kids hit their heads, I freak out (get hysterical, actually) ... so i can only imagine how scared you guys must have been. I also know that "thud" ... and the thud's that you don't see are always the scariest. Again, I'm so glad she's okay, and laughing and smiling again. What a tough little girl! I would hang on to her for sure. ;)
It is so scary when they go limp in your arms. That happened to us a few times with Jordan and one of the times Brad ended up performing CPR and taking him to the ER. I have not had any recent mishaps with my children, but it is the worst thing when your child is in danger in any way and you feel like you are at fault. I could go on and on about that, we have had too many close calls. I'm glad Penny is okay.
That is such a scary thing to go thru. We had a similar experience when Trey was 3mos we had him on top of the counter in his carseat and we heard a thump he was fine but it was soooo scary. I'm so glad Penny is ok and beautiful as ever.
Wow I am sick for you, how scary!! I am so glad she is ok.
holy crap! we used to always put add on the counter. i would have freaked out. i'm so glad she is ok.
Oh man- that is so scary!!! I remember when Kayden was little and he rolled off my bed; it scared me to death and it wasn't as serious as Penny's fall. As mom's, I think we just replay it in our minds, imagine the worst and only make things worse. Stuff like that does just make you sick. I am so glad she is okay.
Hannah- I'm so glad she's okay. Going limp in your arms. Now THAT'S scary. And your friends are right, that thud sound is the worst sound to hear.
I'm really glad she's okay.
Oh poor little Penny! I have heard that about Bumbos. Sorry it had to happen to you and glad she is okay!
That is such a scary thing when your kids get hurt like that. I'm happy to hear that she was okay, minus the bump and probably a nasty headache...poor little thing!
Ok reading this just makes me sick! I so know how you guys felt! The day we moved here, we had a similar experience. We had just moved in and had no food in the house so we ran over to smith's. Avery was five months old. She was luckily strapped into her car seat and placed up on top of the cart. We were headed out to the parking lot. Erik was pushing the cart, I was looking both ways, when all of a sudden, I hear a thud. I thought it was a twelve pack of pepsi that had fallen. I look over and nope, it was my child whose car seat face planted onto the pavement. I was so afraid to even turn the car seat over. I didn't want to know what I would find. She had to have x rays and all was well but man those are scary moments. Glad she's ok!
I just read this at work and I feel like I need to go home and lay down for a while. So thankful that she is okay....and yes, we had similar things happen too. Love you all!
Oh Hannah, I'm so so sorry! From one mom to another - what a nightmare. I'm so happy this little doll baby is a okay! ...and you are too!
