The Whole Rig-A-Ma-Roll
Well, that was an unexpected hiatus. What can I say? Such is life I guess.
Our 4th of July was fun. I have to admit that the 4th of July is probably one of my least favorite holidays. I don't really like fireworks. They are loud, which is fine if you are the one lighting them off but is kind of annoying when you are the one trying to sleep, and they make dogs bark which just kind of adds to the noise. Growing up we didn't really light off fireworks. My uncle blew off some of his fingers when he was younger and I am sure that had some influence on my Mom and I am sure that the fact that fireworks are not cheap was the major influence with my Dad. I do love a good barbecue though, and I appreciate any reason to get together with friends. So I suppose it isn't a total bust of a holiday.
When the kids woke up in the morning the first thing they wanted to do was run through the sprinklers. Mind you it was 73 degrees out side and 8:00 in the morning. Have at it kids.
They couldn't have been happier.
There was running and jumping
laughing and playing.
Then reality hit. It was cold. Never mind the fact that Laney has a Donald Trump comb over in this picture. When you are cold you just don't care.
Canon was sure that his siblings were crazy.
But thought he should give them the benefit of the doubt. So he ran down the side walk as close to the sprinklers as you can get with out actually getting wet. Little concave chest screaming as he went.
Blake really wanted to buy some fireworks this year. When he was asking me what I thought about that we had a conversation that went a little something like this:
B: I think it would be really fun for the kids to have some fireworks to set off.
H: If you wanna. They are expensive.
B: I think it would be fun.
H: You know how when I buy shoes or a dress that is $60 and you cringe a little on the inside?
B: Yeah.
H: That is how it is with you buying fireworks...only I don't light my dress and shoes on fire.
I would like to think that my scenario had a lasting effect but, the pyro in Blake won out.
So, we had our friends the Wheelers over, ate some burgers, played some games, had some ice cream then went into the front yard and lite some fireworks off before it was even dark.
Little did she know that at midnight Blake would start to throw up, then she started to throw up at 2, then Gavin at around 4 a.m. and then me at 9. Blake joked at midnight after he had thrown up ON the toilet "bet you didn't think you were going to do some extreme bathroom cleaning?" And he would be right.
The flu only lasted for 24 hours and we are all feeling back to normal. I managed to drop 4 lbs. in one day which is a feet in and of itself.
So was it the best day ever? Probably pretty close.

Ballet
Laney has been taking ballet class for two weeks and couldn't be happier. This is right up her alley. If I would let her I am fairly certain that she would wear her leotard everywhere. And her ballet shoes, we should never forget those. The tights she could live without. She doesn't like the little nubbin in the front that pokes out.
Who wouldn't want to wear this pink, stretchy goodness all topped off with a little bow at the neck?
And if you get the angle just right you get a little glimpse of the underwear.
Alright, alright. I won't talk about the visible panty line anymore.
Just how cute she looks in her little getup.

Weekly Report
Some happenings at our house that don't necessarily warrant there own post.
I went to the fabric store. This in and of itself is not that exciting. But I did come home with many projects. Some of which are Halloween costumes, because it is never to early to start especially when fabric is on sale.
I also came across this little dress the other day and decided three things: one, there was no way I was gonna pay $185 for a vintage dress. Two, it is a little bit of an eyesore but I can't help but love it. Three, I got to thinking I could totally make my own dress. So there. Challenge accepted.
I found the pattern above at Joann's and the two below are vintage patterns from Etsy. Tickle me pink. If I can make all three dresses look like they aren't complete disasters I will be....well...three dresses richer?
I made strawberry rhubarb pie three times last week. The perfect pie crust had all but alluded me until I made pies 2 and 3. Pie crust perfected. Round of applause.
World domination is just around the corner.
Penny is a little stinker. There I said it. Girlfriend loves to get into stuff and make a mess and thinks it is funny. She also likes to try to claw your eyes out or scratch your face, all sorts of Wolverine style, but that is a whole different subject all together.
She thinks that the bathroom is the best place to be. More toilet paper has gone in the trash in the last week then I think has gone in the actual toilet.
We also had to get her some legwarmers. While the legwarmers are a fashion statement in general it was done more out of necessity. Her poor shins couldn't handle all of the scooting that she has been doing and one of them is so chapped that it is a little on the purple side.
But she does look stylish in them so I suppose that it is Win/Win.

White Trash
When it comes to dressing up, I love it. I welcome it. If you know me at all you know that if there is a reason to dress up then I am gonna go for it. Imagine my delight when some friends of ours said that they were having a white trash party and that we should come dressed up.
Cue me going to the D.I. to try and find some good treasures to wear.
Were there clothes and colors there that made you want to wince? Yes. Yes there was. Did my dress not only have a floral pattern on it but also lions, tigers, butterflies, sailboats and cheetahs? Yes. Yes it did.
We openly encouraged our children to get messy and if they so felt the need to walk around in their diapers, so be it. That is the kind of party it was.
The hosts of the party were nothing if not trashy. Their youngest girl in the front is wearing cut up underwear as a tank top.
Others came in their best night clothes sporting black eyes from last nights fight.
Others came in what I can only deem 80's wear. Which after little thought I realized if you wear anything from the 80's you are pretty much golden on the white trash look.
Holding your baby upside down by their leg screams white trash. But it doesn't scream quite as loudly as a pregnant belly in a half shirt.
Big boobs, big bum, and curlers. Right on track.
Cynthia came in high waisted, acid washed, pleated, tapered jeans.
Anything that has that many words describing it has to be white trash.
There was a whole slew of white trash food including but not limited too: pork rinds, mac and cheese with cut up hot dogs, fried spam, tater tot casserole, and fried snickers.
Anything that has that many words describing it has to be white trash.
Although the food was nasty the party it self was fun and entertaining. I suppose you can't ask for more than that.
